In the third quarter of 2025, the performance of leading music and podcast applications on iOS in South Africa revealed interesting trends, as gathered from Sensor Tower data.

YouTube Music showed a steady increase in weekly revenue, peaking at about $23.6K by the end of September. Weekly downloads hovered around 4.2K, with a slight increase to 4.5K in the last week of the quarter. Active users fluctuated, starting at 277K and reaching over 284K by the end of September.

Deezer: Music Player, Podcast saw weekly revenue ranging between $3.5K and $4.4K, with a notable increase towards the end of the quarter. Downloads remained stable, averaging around 200 weekly, while active users slightly decreased from 14.5K to 14.3K.

TIDAL Music: HiFi Sound experienced varied revenue trends, peaking at $2K in late September. Downloads started at 133 and declined to 91 by the end of the quarter, while active users remained relatively stable around 300.

Airbuds.FM for Spotify Music saw weekly revenue fluctuations, with a peak of $1.7K in late July. Downloads began strong at over 2.3K but dropped significantly in August, then recovered to over 1.1K by the quarter's end. Active users showed an upward trend, starting at 5.6K and ending at 6.1K.

Podcast App maintained a steady revenue increase, reaching $707 by late September. Downloads grew from 128 to 254, and active users increased from 364 to 517 by the end of the quarter.
